Bank Holidays and Annual Leave 2022/23

For employers who have annual leave years that match the financial year, 2023/24 will pose a particular problem which they will need to review and resolve.

In 2024, Good Friday falls on 29 March. As a result, there will be nine bank holidays in the leave year 2023/24, but only seven in 2024/25. Whether or not an additional day needs to be given in 2024/25, or not given in 2023/24, will depend on the contractual wording.

Those employers only giving statutory minimum holiday entitlement will need to manage this carefully to ensure they are meeting their obligations under the Working Time Regulations 1998 (WTR).

If you have any concerns in this regard, we recommend that you speak to us before risking any errors regarding statutory holiday pay. We also have access to the Peninsula HR advice lines which can be a good resource for employers.
