Warning about a suspected identity document scam

As of 18th November 2025, Companies House have increased the identity verification requirements for all company directors and all persons of significant control of companies. Matthews Hanton are working with CreditSafe in order to provide identity checks for those clients who do not wish to set up their own account with Companies House online. However, we’ve recently become aware of some questionable activity in this area, with some less scrupulous individuals pretending to provide ID checks and asking for sensitive documents as well as details about the company involved. We encourage clients to take great caution when providing documentation, even if they are providing it to us. If you have any doubts about what you have been asked to do, please do contact us before taking any action. Although there is a requirement to be met with Companies House, we want to assure our clients that we are taking the correct safety precautions.
